Alejandro Benítez

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder

Alejandro Benítez is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder and of CDMX Mining. With more than three decades of industry experience, he has established a reputation for delivering results derived from his broad knowledge of and expertise in the oil and gas sector, having worked for several world-renowned firms in respected positions.

Beginning his career with an internship at Chevron in San Ramon, California upon the conclusion of his studies, he steadily developed his skills and began to take an interest in the extraction of deep-sea natural resources. He then went on to Shell Global, where he rose to the position of Regional Operations Manager before taking up the position of Director of Mining Operations at ALFA Group.

He has played a leading, hands-on role at CDMX Mining in our efforts to expand and further develop our network. Alejandro has worked hard to secure licenses and the sole rights to in-demand mining areas and built partnerships around the world, allowing us to grow sustainably with our stakeholders and shareholders.  

Alejandro earned his Bachelor’s in Mining Geology from Stanford University before going on to complete his Master’s in Mining Engineering from the University of Southern California.

 

Rafael Zamorano

Chief Operating Officer & Co-Founder

Rafael Zamorano has been our Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder since 2010 focusing on further developing our offshore projects and increasing productivity and efficiency. He has streamlined our operations while ensuring we fully comply with industry regulations and continue to grow sustainably by maintaining productivity at our various sites.

Rafael has spent most of his career in the Latin American mining industry, working in senior and boardroom positions at leading mining firms in the region. Rafael has previously served as the senior mining engineer at Ecopetrol in Colombia, regional operations manager at Petróleos de Venezuela S.A. and, most recently, deputy chief operating officer at Citla Energy.

Rafael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and obtained his master’s degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology.

 

Veronica Salcido

Chief Financial Officer & Share Registrar

Veronica Salcido serves as CDMX Mining’s  Chief Financial Officer since 2015, and has brought essential financial expertise to the company. Her experience and professionalism have been crucial to our expansion and sustainable growth, with our successful penetration of new markets and development of our client base largely due to her commitment to the company.

She began her career at Compañía Mexicana de Petróleo El Águila, spending eight years at the Mexican conglomerate in their finance division, before moving to work at BBVA Bancomer and reaching the position of country finance controller. Then, prior to moving to CDMX Mining, she served as Deputy Chief Financial Officer at Inbursa.

Veronica obtained her Master’s degree in International Finance from the Universidad de Guadalajara.

 

Ivan O’Brien

Chief Exploration Officer

Ivan O’Brien, CDMX Mining’s Chief Exploration Officer since 2012, heads our exploratory operations, leading efforts on the ground and coordinating evaluations of prospective sites, overseeing geological studies, map developments and indicative reports for final assessment. He regularly plays a direct role in our exploratory team on the ground and been essential to the successful growth of our portfolio and increasing productivity.

Ivan, with his extensive experience and education, has led teams in deep-sea natural resource exploration for over 30 years. He has held the position of lead mineral geoscientists at Nautilus Minerals and regional mining director at DeepGreen Metals in Canada, and ground operations director at Odyssey Marine Exploration in the United States.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geology & Ocean Science and a Master’s degree in Oceanography from the Colorado School of Mines. Ivan also completed his PhD in Ocean Mining from McGill University in Montreal.
